Communications Unit
Police Communications officers perform a full range of radio and telephone duties, dispatching police personnel and equipment. They receive, identify and accurately evaluate emergency and routine calls for police services. They monitor and maintain the status of all police personnel and units, tracking location and availability. Communication Officers also monitor a state-of-the-art surveillance system, which surveys airport and transit facilities. They determine appropriate personnel and equipment to be dispatched using voice radio and computer aided dispatching systems, and perform research and clerical work, such as preparation of logs, reports, forms and updates.
